Topic: Driver’s License / Revocations

For those who are experiencing problems with the license, due to unpaid tickets, administrative action or other reasons, there are a few simple rules to follow:

1.  Do NOT pay off old citations without first speaking to an experienced attorney.  It is common for the Division of Motor Vehicles to advise people to pay off old tickets, issue a license and then IMMEDIATELY SUSPEND THE LICENSE.

2.  "Suspended" and "Revoked" mean the same thing.

3.  The North Carolina Department of Transporation Division of Motor Vehicles can suspend or revoke a person's ability to drive within the state, EVEN IF THEY HAVE NEVER HAD A VALID LICENSE.

4.  If a license is in a period of revocation or suspension, paying off tickets can have a cumulative effect.  It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to assess a driving record before taking any form of action.

5.  Prior to visiting DMV or attempting to seek out a reinstatement hearing, you should speak to an experienced attorney.
